Our Story

Plant Hawke’s Bay started out in a small way in 2005 as the result of a restoration project at Bay View. Founder Marie Taylor who has a horticultural science degree from Lincoln, learnt about revegetation processes during an eight-year project to re-establish forest on an east-facing cliff at Bay View. This was a good way to learn about the best local species and how they grow.

The project proved demand for tough and hardy locally sourced and grown plants, leading to her setting up the nursery at Ahuriri. Production grew each year until 2020 when she joined forces with Hawke’s Bay farmers Rob and Coral Buddo.

The new joint venture bought an existing nursery site at Waiohiki, Napier, and is expanding production significantly.

At Matapiro Station we’ve been working with Plant Hawke’s Bay for eight years, and we like their strong, healthy plants grown from locally sourced seeds. I have no hesitation in recommending them.
